Meeting Judy - An intercultural encounter
Meeting Judy - An intercultural encounter with Judy Crawford from the United States
While 70 students from Year 8 spent one week in Hastings/ England, the remaining students from Year 8 had an exciting intercultural encounter at Ratsgymnasium Peine as well. Judy Crawford was invited by Gabriela Fellmann to work with the students. She therefore organised two 90-minute workshops for them. Please find below three texts written by students after the workshop.
Henning – My impressions
Today (1st September 2010) Judy Crawford from America was in our class. She told us a lot about America! She told us where she lived, when and how she got her driver's license and what she did when she was a teenager. We listened carefully and when sometimes words or things were unclear we asked her. She played "Thumb war" with us, somebody wins, somebody loses! We sat in a circle and we had to choose one thing from the middle of the circle and had to describe it, and had to guess what it reminds Judy of. We talked about cliques and groups, alligators and other things which were given to Judy by her daughter(at any rate the toys and figures). All in all, we had two exciting lessons where we had a lot of fun. Thank you, Judy !!!Chiara – Workshop mit Judy
Rick – American visit
Judy Crawford from the United States of America visited Ratsgymnasium Peine to teach the pupils the American habits and the American history. She brought many objects from America and we had to explain what the objects mean to us. For example, there was an American flag, a sword, a picture of a Native American and many other objects. We found out that the American pupils always have to say the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of a school day and we learned many other things of the American people. All in all, it was very interesting to hear something about American habits and American history.
